My cousin, Nasir, messaged me on WhatsApp, sharing the location of Tumjang Peak and he just casually asked me about the place.
It has always been a dream of mine to trek to this peak, so I told him, “Let’s go, bro”.
A girl named Boicy, who works near Nasir’s home as a teacher, is originally from Kholjang Village, in Dima Hasao District, Assam, the same district where Tumjang Peak is located.
I invited Ariful, my friend and co-founder of Hostneur, to join me on the trip, while Boicy decided to bring her brother, Thangboi, along. As a result, our Tumjang Peak Trek group expanded to five people.

At midnight, Nasir, Ariful, and I took the train (Silchar Express) from Guwahati Railway Station (GHY) to Mahur Railway Station (MXR)

After a 7-hour-long train journey, we reached Mahur Railway Station in the morning. We were amazed by the beauty of this small station surrounded by hills. Afterward, we walked to Mahur Market, where Boicy and her brother picked us up, and then we headed to the Tumjang Peak Trek starting point.
We started hiking at 10 AM, saw lots of beautiful views, took pictures, and reached the peak around 1 PM. At the peak, we spent some time. It was a wonderful feeling.

Around 4 PM, we descended to the starting point and after that, we went to Boicy’s home to spend the night.
Staying in her home allowed me to immerse myself in the rich culture of the Kuki people.
The genuine kindness, exceptional hospitality, and warm welcome made me feel like a local even though I was in a completely new place surrounded by unfamiliar faces.
It was a unique and heartwarming encounter that I’ll cherish forever.

After breakfast, we walked to the station and took the Guwahati Express at 11 AM. We found a cute kitty on the train and Ariful decided to adopt it immediately. In the evening, we reached Guwahati.
It was a short trip to Tumjang Peak, but it was an unforgettable one. I made new friends and my bond with my existing friends got stronger. We had a lot of fun, we laughed a lot, and we made many memories.
