I don’t write regularly on Medium anymore. I used to — back when I had the time, the energy, and the obsession to hit “publish” every week.
But once I joined the Medium Partner Program, I got busy with other projects. Then, I got lazy. And now, I rarely post here — and as a result, I don’t make much money from Medium itself.
But here’s the interesting part: Even without being active, some of my old articles keep bringing in views. People still read them. And somehow… they reach my potential clients.
When You Write, People Find You
I often get emails from readers who discovered one of my posts, clicked through to my website, and decided to reach out. They’ll say things like:
“Hey, I read your article on Medium — can you help me with my website?” “I loved your post about blogging. Do you offer consulting?”
And every time that happens, I get a little reminder: Medium is not just a writing platform. It’s a quiet client magnet.
How I Do It (Without Trying Too Hard)
It’s simple — really simple.
Every article I publish includes a CTA at the end:
“If you want to work with me, contact me.”
That’s it. No aggressive sales pitch. No fancy funnels. Just a line that connects curiosity to opportunity.
Whenever I get an email from a potential client because of a Medium post, I feel motivated to write again. Not for the Partner Program earnings — but for the connections.
How to Write to Get Clients
Here’s the thing: You don’t need to “sell” anything to get clients. You just need to write about what you know.
Here’s how I approach it:
- Write about your expertise. Share what you do — not as a sales pitch, but as a story or experience. People love authenticity more than self-promotion.
- Educate your readers. Teach something useful related to your work. When you help people understand what you do, they automatically start seeing you as an expert.
- Keep it simple. No jargon. No overcomplication. Good writing = simple writing. If people need a dictionary, you’ve already lost them.
- Add a clear CTA. Tell people what to do next — visit your website, read more, or contact you. Never assume they’ll know how to take the next step.
The Best Kind of Clients
The clients who come through Medium are usually the best kind — they already know your work. They’ve read your thoughts, connected with your values, and trust your expertise. You don’t need to convince them. You just need to deliver.
That’s the power of writing online.
Final Thoughts — Write on Medium and Get Clients in Your Inbox
Medium might not be your biggest income source, but it can easily become your most authentic lead-generation platform. You don’t need to post daily. You don’t need to chase trends. You just need to show up, share your knowledge, and be honest about what you do.
Because sometimes, one article can do more than a thousand ads.
So, write — not just to earn. Write to connect. Write to get clients in your inbox.
