Nakkati is a local name in the Assamese language, meaning “Cutting Nose.” There are many local stories related to the hill, and the people of the area believe that Maa Maharani (Goddess Parvati) has a mythological connection to it. They have also built a temple dedicated to the goddess in the village.

The cliff of Nakkati Peak resembles McAfee Knob in the USA, and the site is already very popular among tourists and hikers.

I had always wanted to visit Nakkati Hill because it’s not too far from my home. So, suddenly, I made a plan and asked Nadim bro, Ariful, and Bittu to join me on the adventure.

31st January 2025

Bittu and I started our journey from home at 10 AM. We met Nadim bro in Barpeta town at 11 AM and Ariful in Howly at 12 PM. Then, we started our journey together.

We rode our bikes for 104 KM, and it took us more than 2 hours to reach Nakkati Hill.

We took the wrong route and ended up riding almost 30 KM too far.

By the way, we reached Nakkati after 3:00 PM.

The worst part?

The management guy told us that we couldn’t trek because they close the gate after 4 PM.

Since the trek takes three hours to complete, it would have been impossible for us to finish before 4 PM, even if we had started the moment we arrived at Nakkati,

They told us to come back tomorrow.

We all decided to go to Bongaigaon Town. If we found a good hotel, we’d stay; otherwise, we might return home.

On the way to Bongaigaon, I had a minor accident. A guy on a bike collided with mine from the side. I managed to control my bike, but his handlebar pressed against my left hand — it was painful. Luckily, it wasn’t serious, and my hand healed quickly.

I wanted to stay no matter what and tried to convince them. We found a good budget hotel, and they all agreed to stay — except Ariful. He went back home since his father was alone, and he had initially told his family that we’d return at night.

So, it was just the three of us. We had dinner at Joyguru Restaurant in Bongaigaon. It was a great place — the food was good, but their hospitality was even better.

We stayed in our hotel and had fun, dancing a bit to the music from the TV, even though we were completely exhausted.

Finally, we went to sleep with hope that the next day’s adventure would be better.

1st February 2025

At 9 AM, we had breakfast at the same restaurant.

Then, we started our journey toward Nakkati Hill. I took some GoPro shots on the way.

We started our trek at 11:30 AM and reached the peak around 1:30 PM. We spent about an hour and a half at the top, taking photos and videos.

Then, we started descending around 2:50 PM and reached the starting point by 4 PM. We rode our bikes for another 100 KM and got home by 7 PM.

The first day was rough, but it was a great test of our patience and endurance.

On the second day, we planned our trip based on our experience from the first day.

We started at the best time, had plenty of time to complete the trek at our own pace, and even got time to take some great photos.

We had a great experience. In the end, the challenges made the journey even more special and memorable — one that we’ll cherish forever.
